Seeking Summer Internships for Girls

Each summer at Girls Inc., internships at local organizations provide high school girls with professional growth opportunities that impact the rest of their lives. Last summer, one participant had doubts about what she could accomplish due to negative messages from the past. But at her internship, she was supported to learn new skills, take positive risks, and make a real contribution to the workplace. She is now participating in Girls Inc.’s College Access program— and the confidence she gained at her internship is inspiring her to take the next steps toward college. As she puts it, “I believe in myself because I accomplished something when so many people had doubt in me.”

Each year, Girls Inc. of Alameda County seeks local organizations willing to host a Girls Inc. Summer Intern for 11 days, with support from Girls Inc. staff. Last year, hosts included such diverse organizations as PG&E, Gap, Northwestern Mutual, and the Oakland Police Department. If you, or someone you know, would be interested in learning more about how to provide a life-changing experience for a girl at your organization, please contact Joahna Cervantes, Internship Coordinator, at jcervantes@girlsinc-alameda.org.
