Girls Inc. Leader Hears from Michelle Obama

Sultanah, a 17 year old member of Girls Inc.’s Advocating for Change Together program, is a leader. Along with her Girls Inc. sisters, she has taken a stand on issues like sexual violence and environmental injustice, and she has even stepped up to be an intern mentor for younger girls. So Sultanah was thrilled to learn that, thanks to a generous donation from a community member, she and her mother would have the chance to see a powerful role model for girl and women leaders — Michelle Obama – speak at the Oracle Arena.

Sultanah already has big dreams, to be a doctor. But the time she spent listening to Michelle made her realize she could “do that and more”. Hearing Michelle’s stories about authenticity, resilience, family, and motivation, Sultanah describes that she was “reminded to be myself, find a passion that is going to make me happy, and become comfortable with being uncomfortable.” Sultanah is now moving toward college and her bright future with one more experience that inspires her to chase her dreams. As she puts it, “I am glad to say that I have seen Michelle Obama speak in person. Perhaps one day, I will meet her.”
