Girls Inc. National Scholarship Essay Judging

We are extending a huge “THANK YOU!” our volunteer community who worked with us and our youth throughout various stages of the Girls Inc. National Scholarship competition!

Girls Inc. National sponsors a competition among affiliates—open to all Girls Inc. high school juniors or seniors and 8th-grade students with two years of program participation – that awards college scholarships ranging from $5,000 to $20,000 to support their postsecondary or high school education.
In preparation, girls were matched with volunteer essay mentors drawn from the community and worked together over the course of three mentoring sessions, to brainstorm, edit, rework, and talk through their journeys of growth and development.

In November, high school seniors in our College Access Now program submitted their final essays to Girls Inc. of Alameda County and a total of 20 community judges narrowed the pool down to five finalists—who best represent Girls Inc. of Alameda County’s impact—to vie for a National scholarship.

Best of luck to our five: Chelsea, Emiaya, Miriam, Sara and Viviana! Girls Inc. National will announce the winners in February 2024!
