Embracing Farm Life on Slide Ranch Coastal Camping Trip

Thank you to Slide Ranch Camp for hosting a weekend camping excursion for our high school girls! They set up camp in Muir Beach on a cliff overlooking the ocean and began their adventure, which for many youths, was a weekend full of firsts.

They explored Slide Ranch’s farm and gardens, where they socialized with chickens and ducks, learned to milk goats, and had the opportunity to try various garden-grown fruits and vegetables. They later learned to make cheese using the goat milk they sourced themselves and baked delicious, herbed focaccia bread with herbs they foraged from the garden.

The girls also spent time at the ocean, discovering sea creatures in tide pools, wading in the water and enjoying the sunset. They challenged themselves on a night hike, and in their down time, they played soccer, volleyball, card games, practiced painting, bracelet making and dancing, shared stories, and helped make campfires and prepare meals with their fellow campers.

It was a weekend to remember for the girls, where they flexed their positive risk-taking, connected with nature, practiced teamwork and communication, built community and sisterhood and learned a great deal about themselves.

Special thanks to Vitner’s Daughter, whose generosity funded this trip!
