Rakuten and the Golden State Warriors Host Girls for 5th Year of Future Leaders Event

For the fifth consecutive year, we were invited to be a part of Future Leaders—a two-day empowerment event inspired by Women’s History Month—sponsored by Rakuten and The Golden State Warriors (GSW).  The girls were first matched with mentors from both organizations, who would guide and inform the rest of their experience.
Together, the girls and their mentors engaged in a panel discussion, moderated by KTVU’s LaMonica Peters, with leaders in their fields including Allison “Hueman” Torneros, a local artist who designed this Season’s GSW’s jerseys, Su Li Rivera, VP of Marketing for Rakuten, and Maria Valdehueza, VP of Ticketing for the GSW.
Next, the scholars experienced a “Dress for Success” workshop at Nordstrom and met with personal stylists to select a business casual outfit to wear during the job shadowing portion of the event. Each scholar shadowed a Warriors employee on game day learning about guest services, security, VIP fan experiences and more. Our girls were even brought onto the court for special recognition before the game.
The event culminated in the Rakuten suite, where the girls enjoyed the game alongside their mentors.
