Girls Inc. of Alameda County Attends Oakland’s 6th Annual Black Joy Parade
We concluded Black History Month with an exercise in Black Joy. Youth and staff didn’t let the cold, rainy weather stop them from being in community at Oakland’s 6th Annual Black Joy Parade. They gathered at the Simpson Center for Girls to make posters and artwork beforehand, and then joined the 100+ groups in the parade, a hyperpositive space that celebrates the Black experience and community’s contribution to history and culture. Although Black History month has come to an end, we will continue to honor the past and build toward a more equitable future for all.
