2022 Girls Rise Gala – Reaching Higher

Girls Inc. of Alameda County’s 2022 Girls Gala, Reaching Higher, First-of-its-Kind Celebration

On Saturday, October 15, we hosted our 2022 Girls Rise Gala: Reaching Higher, our first in-person fundraising event since 2019.

It was a beautiful evening of celebration, inspiration, and connection.

The gala was an interactive, first-of-its-kind experience, where attendees began the night outside  participating in some of our girls’ favorite field trip STEAM activities, hosted by local corporations, Denali Therapeutics (construct a brain hat), DPR Construction (design a helipad), Simpson Strong-Tie (make your own whiteboard), and us (build a solar car).

The activities were intended to demonstrate the intentionality behind our girls’ programming and to evoke a similar spirit of joy, excitement, creativity and innovation in guests of all ages.

The evening’s program included speeches from two alumnae and a current Girls Inc. participant, all of whom inspired attendees with their unique Girls Inc. of Alameda County experiences.

Alumna Samari gained an interest in STEM during her time at Girls Inc., and she now works for Denali Therapeutics,  a local biotech company dedicated to defeating neurodegenerative diseases.

Alumna Nelzy developed her passion for giving back in her time with Girl’s Inc, attended UC Berkeley and is now employed by the university and is supporting first generation, low-income students.

High school senior Audrey discovered her need to lead with the help of her Girls Inc. mentors, is currently applying to four year universities, while balancing varsity volleyball, her role as Student Body President, and her role as an Executive Council member for her school’s Black Student Union.

On the night of the gala, we premiered our latest video about just how high our girls can reach, when they are provided with equitable opportunities.

Please feel encouraged to share this video and/or images from the photo album with your friends, colleagues, and social media connections. Spreading awareness our mission and impact in our community ensures new opportunities for programming, connections to investors, and ultimately for our girls in their pursuit of reaching higher.
