Women of Impact Gather at Côte West Winery
“Think of a moment when someone opened a door for you. Someone who talked about a career that you’d never heard of or taught you how to shake a hand. What were the ways you were guided?”
This question posed by our CEO, Julayne Virgil, to more than 30 women was followed by a moment of silence to allow for reflection. At Girls Inc. of Alameda County, we have a guiding principle to activate a network of supportive adults who are connected to our girls’ lives. There is no better way to inspire that connection than by asking for self-reflection on personal mentors.
On September 10th, we invited our Women of Impact to join us at Côte West Winery in the Embarcadero Cove district of Oakland for an evening of wine tasting and networking. Julayne spoke to our mission and the importance of Women of Impact. We are grateful to Allison Kvikstad of Ellevest for sharing her experience empowering women to invest and her insights the importance of engaging girls in financial literacy. It was an uplifting environment, introducing professional women to one another and deepening their relationship with our mission.
Women of Impact are on the forefront of our imitative to connect supportive adults to our girls, having the opportunity to be both an investor and a life-changer. Active Women of Impact invest a minimum of $1,000 each fiscal year towards programming that builds up our girls and our community. Members can bring their skills and talents directly to our girls through opportunities like scholarship essay judges, internship hosts, college readiness mentors, and academic tutors, among others!
Since its inception in 2012, Women of Impact have invested nearly $300,000 in our community, providing access, resources, and opportunities for girls.
