Celebrating 60 Years of Coming Together for Girls

On October 20th, Girls Inc. proudly celebrated six decades of serving girls in Alameda County with our 60th Anniversary Gala.

THANK YOU to our sponsors, investors, board members, alumnae, volunteers, friends, allies, staff, and local businesses who came together to make the event a huge success. With your help and investment, we raised $568,710!

Because of Girls Inc., all of us come together to deliver life-changing programs for girls. Alumna and board member Rebecca Alvarez Story and alumna Linh Voan Do kicked off our program sharing the lasting transformative impact of Girls Inc. in their lives, even now as successful professionals – an entrepreneur and CEO, and Controller, respectively.

Alumna Brittany DeWeaver, our keynote speaker and a college junior, spoke of how her 13 years in Girls Inc. programming enabled her to imagine a path out of poverty and violence. At Girls Inc. she received the support, resources, and opportunities to pursue her dreams – from encouragement, to learning about healthy food, to participating in internships, to college access support, and discovering her love of golf – for which she received a college scholarship and opportunities to travel internationally. As Brittany put it, “Because of Girls Inc., I value higher education, innovation, social justice, new experiences, and volunteering. I’m breaking the cycle and the ceiling. Today I am strong, today I am smart, and today I am bold.”

Please take a few minutes to view our new Girls Inc. video, debuted at the Gala, which highlights our whole-girl focus at every developmental stage of a girl’s life. The video exemplifies the impact we have when we partner together to create community spaces dedicated to the power, potential, and future of girls like Brittany, Rebecca, and Linh. And I want to thank you for being part of this community. Together, we ensure girls are equipped to face down barriers, break the cycle of inter-generational poverty, and move into a strong, smart, and bold future.

For those of you who attended the Gala and those of you who did not, we hope you will get more involved with Girls Inc. of Alameda County.
