Girls Inc. of Alameda County Supports Eat.Learn.Play Foundation with Construction of New Playground in Oakland

Girls Inc. of Alameda County provided volunteers to support Stephen and Ayesha Curry’s Eat.Learn.Play Foundation with the construction of a new playground at Bella Vista Elementary School in Oakland. This build marked the foundation’s 11th overall schoolyard project in the Oakland Unified School District.

Over 200 volunteers from companies including Wells Fargo, Kaiser, Rakuten, Workday and more, as well as members of our staff and constituency, assisted over a three-day period with assembling play equipment, mixing concrete, painting murals, and landscaping, to provide Bella Vista students with a new place to play and connect.

In the 2022-23 school year, Girls Inc. of Alameda County began working with Bella Vista, a Title 1 elementary school where more than half the students speak a language other than English at home—nearly 20 languages are represented across the student body!

In our partnership with Bella Vista, and eight additional elementary schools across Oakland, we provide free after-school/expanded learning programming, including literacy support proven to measurably increase participants’ reading scores. In the 2022-23 school year, 98% of our 1st – 5th grade participants made progress toward grade-level literacy.
