Nicki Guard joined Girls Inc. in 2008 as the Community Engagement Manager. Her role in the organization is to activate a network of supportive adults who are connected to girls’ lives. Each year she trains over 800 individuals and volunteer teams to work directly with girls. She organizes intentional one-day volunteer events that allow girls to connect with professionals in STEM fields. Nicki is passionate about yoga and has the joy of partnering with the talented yoga teachers of the Bay Area as they serve Girls Inc. Prior to joining the Girls Inc. team, Nicki served as the Director of Youth Programs at the Shih-Yu Lang Central YMCA in San Francisco, the Education Program Manager at Planned Parenthood Golden Gate in San Francisco and the Violence Prevention Program Coordinator at Tahoe Women’s Services. Nicki holds a teaching degree and a M.S. degree in Education with a focus on ethnic and women’s studies from Iowa State University. She has a certificate in Mediation and Restorative Justice and has taught non-violent communication strategies to inmates at San Quentin Prison.
