Qué hacemos NUESTRA HISTORIA Con sede en Oakland, California, Girls Inc. del condado de Alameda responde a las necesidades únicas de las niñas y sus aliados en East Bay con menos acceso a recursos educativos, sociales y financieros. Los participantes provienen de hogares con menos acceso a ciertos recursos educativos, sociales y financieros. 43% Hablar un idioma distinto del inglés en casa NUESTRA HISTORIA Solo entre el 20% y el 25% de los estudiantes de primaria en las escuelas Título I* del Distrito Escolar Unificado de Oakland (OUSD) cumplieron con los estándares estatales de lectura. El 40% o más de los estudiantes en las escuelas del Título I de OUSD están crónicamente ausentes (faltan el 10% o más del año escolar), lo que afecta significativamente su capacidad para tener éxito académico. NUESTRA HISTORIA Girls Inc. del condado de Alameda se fundó en 1958 como el primer club de niñas en el norte de California. LOS PRIMEROS AÑOS Girls Incorporated del Condado de Alameda (Girls Inc.) se fundó en 1958 como el primer Club de Niñas del Norte de California. Contact Us Legados Legados Legados Legados Participants will enjoy: Youth for Health & Justice is for girls and their allies who are looking to be a part of the movement for opportunity and respect for all. In this summer program, teens will learn about the movement to ensure a future where everyone has access to quality healthcare- focusing on unmet health needs faced by some groups of people in our communities and country. Teens will get the knowledge and tools to become powerful health ambassadors, learning their health rights and exploring the gaps that exist in our country that result in many community members lacking full access to health services they deserve. Teens will share and learn in a supportive space where they can create connections with each other and their facilitator, all while gaining skills that will support them for a lifetime. There are also weekly field trips on Friday. At the end of the summer program, they will work together on a fun art or media project focused on raising awareness for others about the importance of their health. Girls Inc. supports success in elementary school by helping students master foundational academic skills, practice healthy behaviors, and build positive relationships with peers and adults. Girls and their allies begin to identify themselves as readers while acting out characters from books relevant to their experiences, wondering over STEM in their everyday lives as they engage in “jump rope math” and “schoolyard bug science,” and exploring healthy relationships with peers and staff. They also look for connections between classroom learning and the world around them. The middle school years are a challenging time for many youth, as they are developing their understanding of themselves while facing many negative messages. Girls Inc. supports success in middle school by providing a wide range of physical and intellectual activities to explore, promoting sustained and increased interest in STEM, and providing opportunities to build self-confidence as girls and their allies think about their future. Participants try bike riding and hiking, and learn about media messages and all aspects of their health and wellness; engage in hands-on STEM projects and connect with STEM professionals; and talk about how to move into a safe and successful future in high school and beyond. They gain more independence, navigate increased social pressures , and hone their sense of what they want to contribute as they move into their future. Contact Us HEART Program HEART (Helping Everyone Achieve Respect Together) provides an opportunity for girls and their allies to build health, literacy,and decision-making skills related to their bodies, relationships, and overall well-being, supporting their lifelong physical and emotional health. We offer various types of volunteer opportunities for individuals and groups passionate about empowering girls and their allies to be strong, smart, and bold. We offer both in-person and virtual volunteer opportunities, with options for long-term engagement and one-time experiences. The Expanded Learning Program Leader Apprenticeship was created in response to the California Department of Education’s effort to establish a paid training model that supports professional growth and financial stability for individuals from underrepresented backgrounds.
