Preparing the Future Workforce: 10th Graders Participate in Mini Mentoring and Mock Interviews
A diverse group of volunteers joined together with our ambitious 10th-grade girls for two impactful experiences—Mini Mentoring and Mock Interviews—that prepare our youth for upcoming internships placements and potential career interests.
From perfecting handshakes to answering tough questions with confidence, Mock Interviews provided the girls with actionable feedback to carry into real-world scenarios. The volunteers not only served as interview coaches but also as role models, enabling our girls to envision themselves as future leaders in the workplace.
Following the Mock Interviews, our Mini Mentoring session offered the girls a unique opportunity to connect with volunteers from a wide variety of career fields. These professionals shared their personal and professional journeys, speaking candidly about the challenges they’ve faced, the triumphs they’ve celebrated, and the lessons they’ve learned along the way.
“The most valuable thing I learned from my mentors was to always listen to your first instinct and never be afraid to say no,” said 10th grader, Allison. These open and insightful conversations offered our girls invaluable guidance as they begin to map out their own futures. The safe, welcoming environment encouraged them to ask thoughtful questions, explore career possibilities, and gain clarity on the skills needed to achieve their goals.
These events are about more than just skill-building—they’re about forming meaningful connections. These relationships foster confidence and a sense of belonging, crucial elements as our youth navigate their personal and professional development.
As our girls gear up for upcoming internships, instances where they can practice, learn, and grow are indispensable. We are deeply grateful to all the volunteers who made these events possible and to our girls for showing up with curiosity, determination, and enthusiasm.
“These young women are impressive, and it’s amazing to see them being excited about what’s next. I look forward to seeing their success.” – Chia-Lin Simmons, Volunteer
