High Schoolers Explore Real Estate Development and Community Impact at Atlas Apartments, the Tallest Building in Oakland
A group of our high schoolers enjoyed a unique view of Oakland from the top of the tallest building in the city—Atlas Luxury Apartments—thanks to a field trip hosted by Girls Inc. of Alameda County Partner and Real Estate Agency, Carmel Partners.
Real Estate Developer Greg Pasquali and a panel of his colleagues—with positions ranging from human resources to interior design to construction—first led the group through a presentation that detailed the entire design and construction process of the 40-story, 633-unit Atlas tower, highlighting various career paths and roles—including internships and positions that do not require a postsecondary degree—involved in bringing such a project to life.
Following this industry deep dive, Carmel Partners guided the students through an exclusive tour of Atlas’s living spaces and amenities, including its fitness center, social and collaboration spaces, private event spaces, conference rooms, and even a terrace pool and spa.
During the tour, the girls also gained insight into Atlas’s commitment to community and inclusion. The complex has allocated 27 below-market-rate units for low- to moderate-income residents in Alameda County, prioritizing local access and affordability. They also support local initiatives, including housing for Oakland Roots players, retail space for minority-owned businesses, and grants for small businesses within the Oakland Black Arts Movement Business District.
This experience showcased how Girls Inc. of Alameda County, alongside partners like Carmel Partners, opens doors for our students to meet professionals and envision future careers, while highlighting the potential to make a meaningful impact within their communities.
