Girls Inc. of Alameda County and Alliance for Girls Co-Host Event to Lift Up Youth Voices in Alameda County
Girls Inc. of Alameda County is supporting Alliance for Girls (AFG) in their 5-year goal of creating a community in the Bay Area where girls and gender-expansive youth of color, are truly seen and heard. This vision centers around a project called the State of the Bay Area Girl Initiative (SGI) County Profiles which aims to capture data, not just as numbers, but to measure the conditions and well-being of girls and gender-expansive youth of color in each county based on their voices. This data will be used to shape positive changes across all nine Bay Area counties, with young people leading the way as experts and solution-builders.
To kickstart the project, Alliance for Girls and Girls Inc. of Alameda County recently hosted a “Plática–which translates to “talk” or “chat” in Spanish– a community gathering where participants contributed ideas, shaping the direction of the project, in a supportive, welcoming space. During this event, youth facilitators, including members from Radical Monarchs and Girls Inc. of Alameda County—Cande, Lupita, Lynelle and Lynette—led discussions to dive into the details of the SGI County Profiles, with a focus on Alameda County. The goal of this process is to bring about systemic change, county by county, and to build a future that reflects the hopes and aspirations of girls and gender-expansive youth in the community.
