Girls Inc. Rings the Nasdaq Bell

Girls Inc. has been invited to ring the opening bell at the NASDAQ stock market next Tuesday, August 10th in celebration of the ING-Girls Inc. Investment Challenge Symposium, which will be held in New York next week. Girls Inc. of Alameda County will ring the opening bell along with representatives from ING and the three original teams of the Investment Challenge from affiliates in NYC, L.A., and Denver.  Read more »

Showering Our College Freshmen

One hundred percent of graduates of our five-year Eureka! Teen Achievement Program enrolled in college last fall. Many were the first of their family to go on to higher education. There are many expenses associated with going to college, which can be burdensome for low-income students. In celebration of the success of our graduating seniors, Girls Inc. has partnered with Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority Inc., of Silicon Valley to shower our graduates with much-needed supplies and many good wishes as they begin their college journey.  Read more »

Take A Chance!

Believing in a vision and supporting it by any means necessary is what is meant by taking a chance. Barclay Simpson, long-term supporter of Girls Inc. of Alameda County, is fond of saying “Take a Chance.” His support has made it possible for Girls Inc. to take a chance and expand our programs to girls in Kindergarten through third grade. The GIRLStart early literacy program has allowed our girls to take chances of their own. In its tenth year, GIRLStart is now a signature program of Girls Inc. of Alameda County and has been expanded to several Girls Inc. affiliates nationwide.  Read more »
