Each year Girls Incorporated of Alameda County has over 700 volunteers. We seek people for on-going commitments, short-term projects and internships. Fill out a volunteer application and get involved. You will be contacted by email once a month with our newest volunteer opportunities.

Oakland or San Leandro.Train to support elementary girls in literacy, science, math, technology and health enrichment with the GIRLStart program (K-3rd grade), or as a partner in our WOW! program (4th-5th grade). Spend one (or more) afternoon per week role modeling a love for learning at schools in Oakland and San Leandro. Trainings take place one evening per month
All STARS: Oakland or San Leandro. Partner with staff that specializes in dynamic programming just for middle school “tweens.” Assist in sports, technology, nutrition and academics. We are looking for volunteers who know how to support 6th-8th grade girls and who will serve as strong role models. Trainings are prescheduled for individuals or in small groups from September to April.
Event Planning: We have many opportunities for engagement throughout the year from intimate community gatherings to our annual fundraising events. Bring your event planning and social networking skills to an event that shows your commitment to the mission of Girls Inc.!
Women of Color Career Speakers: Each Julywe have a team of women who understand the role that race and ethnicity plays on the pathway to a successful career. As a speaker you will present anecdotes from your own journey as well as conduct an activity related to your work. This volunteer project has had a strong impact on the way the teens view their future! We also have opportunities during the school year (September-May) to come and speak to high school and middle school girls about your life path and career.
Host a Field Trip @ YOUR Workplace: This is one of the most popular ways local women inspire girls to pursue careers in technology, graphic design, city planning, politics, and engineering. A typical field trip consists of hosting a healthy lunch or snack, touring the office, a demonstration of your work with a hands-on component and a Mentoring Panel. Our staff will partner with you on the planning and preparation while the girls start researching your company and field of expertise. You will have an enormous impact in just one afternoon!
Pen Pals: Remember letter writing on paper? Get out your beautiful pens, stationary and stickers to compose letters that teach girls about salutations, grammar and other foundations of literacy. Write letters to 1st and 2nd grade girls in our programs from January-April each year. This is a creative opportunity to connect with girls by mail and can fit into anyone’s busy schedule. This is one of our most popular projects, so sign up early!
One Day Team Volunteering @ Girls Inc.: Have a day out of the office or classroom! Activities in the past have included family literacy nights, cooking demonstrations, fitness days, special reading buddy days, holiday parties, and more. Talk to the Volunteer Manager to make a plan specific to your group.
Guest Fitness Instructor: All of our programs have curriculum that supports well being of the body and mind. Volunteer to lead groups in a 4-6 week class in yoga, dance, basketball or other activities.Volunteer trainings to teach yoga to youth happen in the fall and spring.
